Meet the Cast — Terri Melinda Key

A Personal Invitation from Terri Melinda Key, Voice #5, Breast Cancer Diaries
Born in Manhattan, I am the third of five children. I have four brothers and being the only girl was tough. I started working with my father at the age of 14, helping to remodel homes. He also taught me to play the saxophone at a young age. We continued to beautify homes together until I applied to business school at the age of 26 to major in accounting. After graduating, I delivered food for a catering company and began to start a family. After my second daughter was born, I started my career with sanitation and along the way had three more children. A year before I retired, my first grandchild was born. After retiring, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. This led to chemotherapy for five months and in between my second grandchild was born. I was able to get through the rest of treatment, as well as having a double mastectomy. To reduce the risk of it returning, I completed a 35-day radiation treatment. I’ve been in remission for eight years now and I feel so blessed that I held on to my faith and to have had my support system remain consistent.
